DISCOVER DRESDEN ELBLAND FROM THE COMFORT OF A PADDLE STEAMER
Nostalgic: Saxon Steamship Company
As the paddle wheel turns in leisurely fashion, the steam stack hisses, and the engine can be heard hammering away below deck: we’re cruising through Dresden Elbland aboard the oldest and largest extant paddle steamer fleet anywhere worldwide.
Historical: Time travel by steamer
The historic Elbe steamers of the famous White Fleet are tied up alongside the embankment in Dresden. Step aboard in the morning and while away up to five hours back in time if you opt for the longest of the scheduled cruises upstream to Bad Schandau. The sights and sounds of a journey on board the world’s oldest and largest paddlewheel steamer fleet are much the same as a century ago, right down to the collapsing funnel to navigate the many bridges. The Wine Route Special sails downstream to Meissen or Diesbar – both of which are musts for oenophiles.
