Winegrowing around Weinböhla dates back many centuries and its 25 hectares of vine-covered slopes and picturesque panoramas entice many visitors to tarry a while and taste a tipple or two. The town is also ideal for sporty types of an oenophilic persuasion. Well-signposted paths take walkers past ancient towers and vineyards, before rewarding them with epic views from the Meissen Elbe Valley to the Lusatian uplands. The local history museum in the Peterkeller estate and the nearby St Martin’s Church are equally appealing. Our recommendation: the unbeatable art nouveau on show in the historic Zentralgasthof ballroom.
