Art from Romanticism to the present
In the 19th and 20th centuries, Dresden was the city that gave new impetus to artistic currents: other Romantic painters gathered around Casper David Friedrich in the form of Clausen Dahl and Carl Gustav Carus, the Brücke artists came together around 1908, and in the 1920s Otto Dix set a neo-Saxon direction. All of them can be found in the rooms of the Galerie Neue Meister in the Albertinum, and of course several more big names from all over Europe. The exhibition is concluded by the currently most famous living artist. Gerhard Richter's works fill two rooms. He studied at the Dresden Art Academy, where Casper David Friedrich taught more than a century before him and which stands on Brühl's Terrace right next to the Albertinum.
