Pheasantry Moritzburg
Very early on, the pheasant was considered a popular hunting game and delicate game bird, which is why pheasanteries were established in parks near the castle in the 17th and 18th centuries. This delicacy was also not to be missed at the electoral table of Augustus the Strong. In 1728 he had the pheasantry built. After the pheasant garden was devastated during the Seven Years' War, Count Camillo Marcolini rebuilt the pheasantry under Elector Friedrich August III in 1768. In the process, the pheasant castle was also built. The famous pheasant breeding existed until 1916. In 2005, the ancient tradition of the royal house was revived and pheasant breeding was started again. Visitors could not only marvel at the magnificent pheasants, but also learn interesting facts about the pheasant, the park and the Pheasant Castle during guided tours. In addition, various selected restaurants were supplied with the pheasants. Unfortunately, the breeding station is currently empty again.
